NICCOMO Cardio Screen The NICCOMO provides haemodynamic parameters based on the measurement of thoracic electrical bioimpedance and is able to calculate such parameters with comparable accuracy to thermodilution. The NICCOMO continuously displays many valuable haemodynamic parameters such as heart rate, stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), systemic vascular resistance, indices of contractility, thoracic fluid content, left cardiac work, and systolic time ratio. The results produced by the impedance cardiography have been validated against more commonly accepted methods of CO measurement and enhancements to impendence technology over the years have lead to accurate and reliable results. The device is very easy to operate. Once the ECG cable is attached to the four sets of sensors (placed on the side of the neck and chest) and some patient information is entered, values of haemodynamic parameters are displayed in less than one minute. The NICCOMO is a clinically essential system that has been used to: A study published recently in the journal Hypertension by Dr Sandra Taler et al clearly demonstrates the added value of haemodynamic data in treating resistant hypertensive patients. In this study, hypertension specialists at the Mayo Clinic in US were 70% more successful in achieving targeted blood pressure values when they used haemodynamic data to guide therapy compared to treating patients without this data. Objective data on pressure and its primary and secondary determinants enabled these hypertensive experts to make better-informed decisions on appropriate therapy for these very challenging patients. With the expertise, cost and risk associated with the placement
of PA Catheters, their use is often limited. With the NICCOMO,
however, either spot check or continuous monitoring of all your
patients is now made possible with simplicity, at low cost,
and with virtually no risk of patient complications.
