    Response Medical Signs Exclusive Distribution
    Agreement with SunTech Medical Inc

Response Medical has recently signed and exclusive Distribution Agreement with SunTech Medical, Inc, the world leaders in motion-tolerant, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring products and technology. The SunTech 247™ Diagnostic Station is the first clinical grade product to offer automated BP measurement with a manual back-up mode, making it a very reliable BP device for healthcare providers. Response Medical expects this to become a major product in Hospitals and Primary Care Trusts alike.

Following their major reorganisation of the last two years, the UK’s Ambulance Trusts are now looking to Response Medical to assist with their equipment strategies. The Whisper Flow devices for patients suffering from cardiac-related fluid build-up are starting to gain a foothold, as is the Oxylator, recognised as the most cost effective emergency resuscitator available today.

The South West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is trialling the Surety Retractable Needle as is Papworth Hospital. There has been highly encouraging feedback to the new Surety and Integrity ranges of clinical disposable and non-disposable products, including our own branded BP Cuffs, Pulse Oximetry Probes, Needles and Chart Papers. This Consumables and Accessories initiative is showing great promise, and with the propagation of our own sourced products gives Response Medical a stronger foothold in the markets export as well as home, and enables us to control quality and to better offer competitive pricing, whilst enjoying attractive margins.

Marketing initiatives are being developed and Response Medical has recently appointed a new Marketing Agency to initially develop high quality materials to launch our branded ranges in the Autumn of 2007. Both the British Cardiac Society Exhibition and the annual Ambulance Conference / Exhibition were major high spots this year with much higher levels of buying intentions being signalled.

    AMBEX 2007

Oliver Dix, Product Sales Director at Response Medical, reported an incredibly successful AMBEX with many delegates expressing real interest in the Oxylator Resuscitator and the WhisperFlow CPAP.

Shown above are visitors from the South Western Ambulance Service receiving their first batch of CPAP devices for deployment at Cornish Stations. Approaching 50 devices will be in use there soon. CPAP provides quick relief from Pulmonary Oedema, with patients experiencing benefit within as few as ten breaths. It is an inexpensive solution to a very widespread problem.

Richard Taffler, Acting Clinical Effectiveness Manager with the Trust commented "South Western Ambulance Service is proud to be the first Ambulance Service in the UK to adopt the WhisperFlow CPAP system in a pre-hospital setting. We are committed to providing the very highest level of care for our patients and I believe this may lead to the introduction of CPAP on every one of UK's 5000 front line ambulances".

During the Congress Dr Bengt Ericsson, a Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist, from Sweden spoke of his 19 years experience with CPAP in his EMS Service and recommended that all UK Trusts adopt this simple device.

The Oxylator, too, was another major `draw` for Response Medical with Oliver Dix running a competition for delegates to see how quickly it could be brought into use on a manikin. All who accepted the challenge of using this patient-responsive, oxygen-powered resuscitator were pleasantly surprised by its ease of use, especially when compared to the more traditional BVM and portable ventilators.

    Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Welcomes
    their First NICOMMO

Dr John Esmond from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary has recently purchased the NICCOMO, the Non Invasive Continuous Cardiac Output Monitor. They are very happy with the way in which the product operates and are reaping many benefits.

Dr Esmond said, "In certain critical illness, it appears that prompt fluid administration improves outcome. What one titrates fluid against, be it pressure or flow, is open to debate, so long as the fluid is given promptly. The NICCOMO can be applied in less than two minutes and fluid responsiveness can be determined immediatly, without the risks of invasive techniques".

    Oxylator Product Launch

The Oxylator® is intended to provide simple and effective emergency ventilatory support for patients greater than 10Kg. Utilising patented technology, the Oxylator® gives the responder utmost flexibility in their airway management during emergencies and attended short-term ventilation events.

It has been specifically designed to deliver 100% oxygen, to be as easy-to-use as a pocket mask, whilst eliminating virtually all complications and the subjective variances associated with manual ventilation e.g.(BVM's).

The Oxylator® has been FDA approved, CE marked and meets performance standards as set out in ASTM F920-85 andISO 8382. Oxylator®: Features

The Oxylator® was designed specifically to provide the utmost flexibility, safety, and effectiveness by combining all the features of a resuscitator and a first response ventilator in one small, handheld unit.

  • Provides safe administration of oxygen, either with a mask or endotracheal tube. The EMX version offers the ability to select the maximum pressure limit during the inspiratory phase of a ventilatory cycle.

  • The minute volume will always be maintained when the system is in automatic mode, regardless of changes to the pressure limit settings. During the ventilatory cycle, the system always maintains a positive pressure in the airway, unless a negative pressure is initiated by the patient's own effort at which point it allows the patient to satisfy their own demand.

  • Automatically cycles with a patient's own rhythm, and wastes no time in 'detecting' failure of a patient's own inspiratory effort. Its unique design utilises ONLY ONE moving component as it cycles, which 'floats', thereby virtually eliminating any wear factor or possibility of malfunction. All Oxylator's come with a 5-yearwarranty.

  • Eliminates the potential of 'stacked' breaths, or gradual increase in PEEP levels which may occur with time/volume cycled systems. Its expiratory phase allows passive, unassisted exhalation.

  • Provides feedback to alert instantly of airway blockage and inadequate ventilation.

  • Its design allows the user to maintain better mask seal and reduces fatigue when used in its automatic mode. When the system is used simultaneously during chest compressions, it synchronises the cycling modes to the compressions automatically, providing safe and effective two-man CPR technique, as recommended under BLS guidelines. Minimal PEEP is maintained (< 4 cmH2O) when used in the automatic mode.

  • May be switched to manually activated ventilatory cycles if confronted with patients that demonstrate abnormal lung compliances. Provides inhalation function when resuscitation is no longer required, this can be overridden automatically if resuscitation is to be re-initiated.

  • Simple rugged construction allows the user to disassemble the top and bottom components instantly with no tools, to ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of the system.

  • Provides a trained caregiver the ability to monitor and detect deterioration or improvement of a patient's condition(respiratory) simply from cycling rate changes.

  • The system accommodates a particle orviral-bacterial filter disc to be inserted into thepatient connection if desired.

    Surety™ Range Product Launch

IMD is delighted to announce the launch of two manually retractable hypodermic safety needles.

Having been originally developed under the project name ‘ClipOn’, IMD is to launch the first products in its Surety™ range of safety devices under the brand names Surety™ Needle and Surety™ Needle+. The products are to be launched via IMD’s 100% owned subsidiary, Response Medical.

During the course of the last 12 months in England and Wales 147 million hypodermic needles were purchased via the NHS Supply Chain catalogue and the number of safety devices in use has now grown to 14 million per year.

    The Company has had a number of successful product evaluations and continues to work closely with the NHS with a view to inclusion of its safety needles in the NHS Supply Chain catalogue. The decision by NHS officials to fast-track IMD’s safety devices into the catalogue ahead of the official needles contract renewal date of summer 2008 is largely due to the innovative and unique design of the needles. Group Commercial Director, Matthew Root commented;

"Following a number of recent meetings with senior representatives of the NHS, we now expect inclusion of the safety needles as Blue Diamond products in the NHS Supply Chain catalogue within the next two months. We are also planning to launch a range of complementary safety IV injection and phlebotomy devices under the Surety™ brand over the next 18 months"
